CHECK ME OUT!

Check out the new, hot smile on the left, compared with what I did look like on the right. It took just over an hour today at Asheville Dental Care to make a dramatic change to my appearance. Dr. Powell applied porcelain veneers to my front four top teeth. Now, I thought he was joking when he told me this last week, but Dr. Powell was right - I had to stop staring at myself in the rear view mirror on the way home so I wouldn't get in an accident. It really is amazing how four teeth make an incredible difference in how I look, and how I feel about the way I look. And, let's face it, like it or not, much of our lives in the world today are based on first impressions. I look forward to the ones I'll be making from now on. In full disclosure, before we took the final pictures, Dr. Powell had to do a little mustache surgery. (Thanks Brea, for suctioning out all the lose hairs). I couldn't show off my new grill with a few unruly hairs curling over my lips. Now THAT's a full service dentist, my friends! I'm still stunned at the difference in my look - and can't wait to flash these babies all over town tomorrow. I want to remind you once again about the Asheville Dental Care open house, Thursday August 7th from 5pm-8pm (see my post about it below). And as always, join me on a better smile journey by entering for a free whitening and consulation with Asheville Dental Care. Tell me why you or someone you know should get a better smile, at kulmer@saganc.com - from Asheville Dental Care, and Classic Hits 96.5 WOXL.

PUT ON YOUR BEST SMILE & JOIN THE PARTY!

A couple of things to share with you. First, I'm excited about getting my lumineers this week. My wife, who I told you in an earlier post got her lumineers from Dr. Powell and Asheville Dental Care, told me it will take a couple of weeks of staring at myself in the mirror to realize that's actually me looking back at me with that amazing smile. Also, you're invited to a big reception to welcome Dr. Callan White to Asheville Dental Care. He's joining Dr. Powell at one of the most technologically advanced practices in our area. Take a tour, enjoy food, drinks, music and more, 5pm-8pm Thursday. You can also see my better smile in person! Asheville Dental Care is located just off of Hendersonville Road, right behind the Huddle House near I-40. And remember, I'm still taking your e-mails at kulmer@saganc.com - tell me why you or someone in your family needs a better smile, and you could win a free whitening from Asheville Dental Care.

YOUR E-MAILS!

My lumineers are being made as we speak! One week from today, I'll have a flashy smile of the stars. Look out Ryan Seacrest - I'm out to take a few of those five-thousand TV shows you host off your hands. I've gotten all sorts of great entries for the whitening and consultation from Dr. Robert Powell and Asheville Dental Care. This one came from a woman hoping to help her husband: He works with public daily so he’s always smiling. Although Mark has a beautiful smile he’s always felt that he needed to have his teeth whitened. So please help me make his wish come true. Keep the entries coming at kulmer@saganc.com . Dr. Powell had me come pick out my "shade" for my lumineers and whitening yesterday. This has been such an easy, stress-free process. The friendly staff, the quick visits, the technology, my comfort level, from a dentist I can trust. It's all good. Keep watching for the finished pictures too!

Almost There!

My better smile transformation with Dr. Robert Powell and Asheville Dental Care is moving right along. In the picture to your right, you see me chillin' with those cool sunglasses with the .mp3 music player built in (Dr. Powell gets me the ones with the classic hits, of course!) The instrument to the left is the special computer camera that scans my tooth for those CEREC inlays, milled right in the office in minutes. Now even though my blog has shown and described some of the cool technology offered by Dr. Powell and Asheville Dental Care, you should know Dr. Powell's story. He's been practicing in Asheville for 35 years. Remember those floods in Biltmore Village in 2005? Dr. Powell's office was right in the path. He took the opportunity to invest in a new location with state-of-the-art technology. You combine that with a dentist you can trust, someone you know you can count on in an emergency, and a professional who can offer you the latest options in restorative dentisty - you've got a winning combination that can give you a winning smile - just like mine. Join my better smile journey - send me a quick e-mail, tell me why you want a better smile, and win a whitening and consulation: kulmer@saganc.com .

Cool Close-ups

I posted earlier how much more durable a CEREC dental onlay is over the old-school mercury dental work. I also want to give you a clear picture of how much better it looks. This week, I had two CERECS done with Dr. Powell at Asheville Dental Care. Check out the before, and the metal-free after. That old metal work just lays there, not protecting the remaining portion of the tooth. That's why some people experience trouble down the road with them, and are opting to replace them with CERECS. Also, if you've had crowns or inlays done before, you know it requires A LOT of time in the dentist's chair. That's NOT the case with CERECS. Dr. Powell's state-of-the-art computer system designed my onlay in minutes, and then it was created right across the hall. In fact, this particular visit, it took about one hour from start to finish to design, mill, and place BOTH CERECS! It really is amazing to see the computer scanning my teeth and watching it all go down. After the scan is complete, Dr. Powell makes a computer rendering of the exact shape the onlay needs to be to make a clean fit, then it's milled in minutes by a diamond cutter right there in the practice, and put into place. I left the office around noon, and by 7pm the same evening, I was eating dinner without any pain or sensitivity whatsoever. Make sure to e-mail me at kulmer@saganc.com for your free whitening and consultation from Dr. Robert Powell and Asheville Dental Care. Tell me in 250 words or less why you want to have a better smile along with me. Keep checking on-air and online for further updates, and keep smiling!

SHADES AND SOUNDS

I wanted to tell you about something really cool now available at Asheville Dental Care. Dr. Powell has these sunglasses to keep the lamp from shining so brightly in your eyes. Check this out - they have MP3 players built in. Dr. Powell knows I like the classic hits, and he's got it loaded and ready to play for me. It's one of those extra special touches you've heard me talk about on the radio that really make the difference with Dr. Powell and Asheville Dental Care.

What's a CEREC?

So part of my mouth makeover involves undoing some patchwork from the past. If you've ever gotten a filling, it was probably the traditional metal one. A couple of problems - they can wear out in 10-12 years, and actually lead to a tooth to crack - often requiring major pain to fix. They can also discolor the gums - you may have seen those people with that black line on their gums. Not to mention those fillings just aren't fun to get, strapped into your dentist's chair getting your tooth filed down. I'm going to get 3 of my old metal fillings replaced with CEREC fillings -but first, Dr. Powell found a cavity that needed filling first. I now have my first CEREC - and I have to tell you, it was the coolest thing I've ever seen at a dentist's office. First, a computer scanned my tooth - Dr. Powell made some adjustments on the monitor. Then, in a matter of minutes, a diamond cut this little cube into my tooth-colored filling, which was applied to my tooth. Quicker and easier than those old-school fillings, and not scary as all.

YOU'RE NEVER FULLY DRESSED WITHOUT A SMILE

Little Orphan Annie and her friends were right - you're never fully dressed without a smile. Dr. Powell showed me some before and after shots - and the difference in appearance is remarkable. As Randy Jackson says, it's the "wow factor", dawg! Check out some of the transformed patients from Asheville Dental Care here . We get one chance to make a first impression - and we only get one ride on this good earth. I'm glad I've finally decided to do this. Part of my apprehension was a fear of the dentist. Honestly, from the moment I came into Dr. Powell's office, I got a different feeling. For one thing, there's a relaxation room with soft lighting, music, and a fountain. While you're having a procedure done, you get shades to shield you from the light - and here's the cool part - the glasses have built-in MP3 players - loaded with your choice of country, rock, or my favorite, classic hits. Speaking of the technology, it's like something straight out of the Jetsons. I saw the lab where "CEREC" fillings are made on the spot - the latest pain-free option to the traditional metal filling. More on those in my next post. I was blown away at the technology - and as a new patient, you too can take the tour and see what I'm talking about.

MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST: DIASTIMA

When my "grown up" teeth came in, a couple of 'em forgot to take a step forward. So I've had that gap (which I later learned is called a "diastima") that I figured I was stuck with forever. I was self-conscious about it, and never fully showed off my smile in photos. I became really aware of it when I was getting some pictures made for the http://www.965woxl.com/ - and everyone kept saying to "smile naturally", and I was having a hard time doing that. You can see the diastima in its glory in the close-up pic. But when Steph turned her $100 grand smile into a million dollar mouth - and told me how easy (and the most important part - painless) it was, she had me at hello all over again. I then had my first consultation with Dr. Robert Powell at Asheville Dental Care.

THE JOURNEY BEGINS

So our story begins nearly a year ago. That's me (the bigger fella) with my wife, Stephanie and our ring bearer, Joe (the curly headed bloke). Steph said she'd wanted to get something done about her "chipmunk teeth", which I thought were adorable, but she wanted to have the perfect grill for her bridal portraits. That's when I first became familiar with Dr. Robert Powell and Asheville Dental Care, who did her porcelain veneers in one day. She was very happy with the results. The difference was really evident when we reviewed our wedding pictures - Her perfect, Osmond-esque smile, and me with my big goofy grin that had bothered me for a while. What's my issue? See exhibit A in the next post.
